A Love Letter to Shotgun Sister – Café Now Closed / Rebranded

Enormous Slice of Banana Bread

It was a normal day in Giesing. Most of us were sipping beer; some of us were complaining about gentrification; and somewhere, someone was probably spraying “Giesing bleibt ghetto” onto some wall or another. Yes, it was a normal day in Giesing when Katha swept in like Mary Poppins hanging from an umbrella with a substantial loaf of banana bread under one arm and a smooth cup of coffee in the other. Again, it was a normal day in Giesing, until with one swipe of the hand, Katha—queen of the messy bun, owner of one of those Gatsbyesque, make-your-day smiles—introduced Shotgun Sister to Deisenhofener Straße. We didn’t know it then, but this one moment in history was the fulfillment of all our secret coffee-bar dreams and I’m here to tell you exactly why.

Açaí und Mango Bowl

With reasonable prices and generous portions—I swear, the banana bread slices are the size of a small child’s arm—Shotgun Sister draws in a mixed crowd. From avocado obsessed millennials and Wi-Fi hunting professionals to local families and retirees, anyone can a find their own cozy corner in Shotgun Sister’s shabby chic interior. Admittedly, from the outside, Shotgun Sister appears to be tailored to a younger crowd. At its heart, however, what this cute cafe offers is an invitation to anyone and everyone with a spare moment to indulge. What’s more, apart from using fresh, quality ingredients, Shotgun Sister offers gluten-free and vegan/vegetarian options for anyone out there with food restrictions. So, whatever it is you’re into, chances are you’ll find it.

Cinnamon Roll and Avocado Toast

For me, culinary highlights include the aforementioned Banana Bread, the Avocado-Feta-Brot, and the Acaí-Bowl. Accompany your snack with a classic coffee creation, chai, or ginger tea and you’ll be all set for healthy break from whatever it is that usually plagues your day.

So, whether you’re looking for a place to get some work done, a cozy corner to read in, or a place to catch up with family and friends, I recommend you give Shotgun Sister a try. This place won my heart from the getgo. I’ve no doubt it’ll be able to win over yours.
